Task and procedure:

By means of the eddy current test procedure, defects in the material are to be found and the hardness is to be tested. The areas to be considered are the two contact surfaces of an outer bearing ring that is used for a double-row radial tapered roller bearing. In a fully automated routine bearing rings are fed into the system by means of a transport belt. The parts are separated via a barrier and then set into the test station using a grip handling. There, the rings are clamped at their outside perimeter and set into rotation via the clamping module. The probe for the crack test then approaches the component surface. The combined stroke and rotation movement (probe and component) results in a spiral test track over the lower contact surface. Then, the upper contact surfaces are tested. As the scanned surface is not parallel to the axis of rotation, the probe must be tilted for this purpose. After the crack test, the second probe is advanced in the same way for the hardness test. The probe rests on the material and scans only one circular test track per contact surface. After the test, the bearing ring is unclamped and automaticaliy put onto the outgoing conveyer in case of good parts. Bad parts are automaticall discharged after a corresponding analysis.
